The Girl on the Corner -- Rachel de la Rosa

Rachel de la Rosa is an amazing woman I met on the same Atlanta mission trip. She prayed for me and encouraged me. She really had a heart for those on the streets, as exhibited by this poem.

============================

She stands on the corner
Her profanity insanity
Words of lewdness and crudeness
She winks

Do you hear what she's saying?
Do you hear when she speaks?

For her there's no solution
She's pollution with her anti-moral revolution
An extremist, she's so bold
She tells you a story in a language all her own

To make it, she'll fake and take and then give
Only to re-live
Her nightmare again
Covered in sin
Her body for sale
The girl on the corner
She lives out a tale

You look once and then twice
Consideration? Never...ever!
Self-righteous judgment your motivation
Looking down your nose at her all the while
She looks in your eyes and
Puts on her best smile

You call her a whore
A prostitute on the street
Her affection the connection
To give all she has
To get what she needs

She needs
What need?
A drink, a rock
Maybe some weed
It's just what you think
But you’re blinded by your own vicious greed

Your selfish desire is driving you
Striving, you make yourself bigger
And in your own mind
You define yourself better than she'll ever be

Open your ears
Do you hear what she's saying?
Do you hear when she speaks?

Her profanity insanity
Such lewdness, such crudeness
She winks

She tells you a story
She lives out a tale
The girl on the corner
Her body for sale

Do you hear what she's saying?
Been praying?
Every moment she breathes
Her words turn to screams

Little girl on the corner
Whose daddy has used
And abused
And left
At age three, then seven
Then ten once again

He's walking away with her pure innocence
And she's reaching out her little hand
But no Superman, nor Spiderman
Nor any man to her defense

The girl on the corner
She looks in your eyes
Puts on her best smile
Looking for a hero all the while
Hoping and praying all you'll see is a child

Do you hear what she's saying?
Do your ears hurt when she screams?

She's crying
She's dying
She's begging you...please!

Won't you please help me?
